One day, at a gig, someone told me about this website that lists heaps of folk related festivals throughout the UK and Europe, the website is froots. At the time, I already had an idea that I wanted to visit the UK & Europe later in the year. So I went to f-roots and looked up all the relevant festivals that were on during the desired time period, namely July-August 2007. I sent off quite a few emails, and eventually I heard back from one. The Cottingham Springboard Festival. I sent off the relevant promo and cd, not long thereafter I received confirmation that I was on the bill. The rest of my journey evolved from here. Via the Cottingham organisers I managed to get on the bill for several other gigs in and around Yorkshire, including the Filey Folk Festival, Stripped @ The Wellington Inn, Music H.Q. @ The Tiger’s Lair, even a live radio spot on BBC Humberside with James Hoggarth.Cottingham Festival was definitely a highlight of my journey. I view all the gigs I played as a method. A method that enabled me to meet new and interesting people, to reach out to them in the best possible way. I still belive a musical journey is the best way to travel, it adds a certain dimension to one’s journey that allows a sense of purpose and fulfillment. For me, the best outcome of traveling is the people you meet, the friendships you develop and the growth you achieve.Other gigs included:* 05/08/07 – Electroacoustic Club @ The Slaughtered Lamb, London.* 14/08/07 – MacSorley’s Music Bar, Glasgow.* 17/08/07 – Free Candy Sessions @ The Liquid Ship, Glasgow.Photo courtesy of Ian Stowers, UK.
